Questions to Ask on Your Preschool Tour

August 9, 2024
Parent Resources

There is nothing more important than the care and well-being of your child. When the time comes to find the perfect preschool, it can feel overwhelming. Our school leaders understand how difficult it is to make such a paramount decision, so we are here to equip you with a list of questions to  ask during your preschool tour.

What makes your curriculum unique?

Understanding the school’s educational approach will help you assess if it aligns with your values and goals for your child’s early learning. Ask about the balance between play and academics and how they promote social-emotional development.

What are the teaching qualifications and training of your staff?

The expertise of the teaching staff is essential. Ask about their educational backgrounds, experience in working with young children, and any continuous professional development they engage in to remain updated with current best practices.

How do I know my child will be safe?

Ask about security protocols and cleaning practices in place, staff background checks, illness policies, and emergency procedures.

What does a typical day in my child’s classroom look like?

Here, you should learn if there is a daily schedule and what types of activities your child may participate in. Be sure to ask about outdoor playtime and if meals are provided and included in tuition.

Can you tell me about family communication?

Ask how you will be informed about important school information and your child’s daily events and progression over time.

Can I see the classroom?

Always ask to visit the classroom your child will be in. This gives you a sneak peek into the atmosphere of the classroom and may even allow you an opportunity to speak with the teacher. Be sure to ask to see the playground as well. Does it look well-maintained with safe structures? As you walk down the hallway, pay attention to the other classrooms. Look for teachers and students engaged in learning and fun.

What are your bottle-feeding, baby food, diaper, nap, and sleep/SIDS prevention policies?

Schools can differ with their policies on these and it is important to have this knowledge ahead of time.

What sets your preschool apart from others?

This question can provide insights into what the school values most and its unique offerings that might align particularly well with your child’s needs and interests.

As you tour different preschools, take notes and trust your instincts. Decide what is the most important criteria for you and your family. The right preschool will feel like a supportive and nurturing environment where your child can grow and thrive during these formative years.

Our Links to Learning curriculum offers the perfect balance of learning and play, while promoting important social-emotional skills. Classes are led by dedicated, caring teachers who value open communication with families. We’d love the opportunity to meet your family and show you our vibrant school community.
